New website for Collection Zeeland officially launched

Last month, Collection Zeeland was officially launched. The new digital heritage platform that captures the rich history of the province of Zeeland.

As DEVENTit, we are proud to have contributed to the realization of this special project. In collaboration with Heritage Zeeland, ZB Library of Zeeland, and the Province of Zeeland, we developed the website and the digital platform where the collections of 24 museums and heritage institutions come together. Currently, there are already more than 45,000 objects, photos, books, and stories to admire, supplemented by over 1,500 stories that together form the digital heart of Collection Zeeland.

The foundation of the platform is Atlantis Collection Management, which allows heritage institutions to sustainably manage, link, and present their collections. Other participants from Zeeland can also join. Thanks to this approach, a single central gateway to Zeeland’s heritage is created.
At the same time, the platform represents an important step towards a future-proof digital infrastructure for the entire heritage sector in Zeeland.

Atlantis User Consultation on Wednesday, November 12, 2025

On November 12, we are organizing the annual user consultation of Atlantis. This meeting is an important moment to reflect together on the development of the system and on how it is used in practice. Every year, we see how valuable it is to engage directly with the people who work with Atlantis daily.

This year, we have also put together a varied program. The new board will be present and will share their vision on the steps towards NDE-compatible working, an important development that will be central in the coming period. Additionally, we will provide an update on recent improvements and take participants through the latest version of our software: Atlantis 7. We will showcase what is new and explain the migration process.

After the content program, there will be plenty of room for meeting, exchanging ideas, and discussion. This way, we continue to build, together with our users, a future-proof and user-friendly Atlantis.

Month of Digital Heritage

November is dedicated to digital heritage. During the Month of Digital Heritage, an initiative of the Digital Heritage Network (NDE), heritage professionals and volunteers from across the country share their knowledge and experiences about digitization, collection management, and audience engagement. The month is intended for everyone who works with collections and wants to make digital heritage accessible, from museums and archives to libraries and historical societies. Throughout the month, various presentations, workshops, and knowledge meetings will be organized, addressing current topics and practical examples.

We would like to draw your attention in particular to the meeting about terminology sources on Monday, November 17. Choosing the right terminology sources can be quite a challenge, while terms form the backbone of digital heritage: they make collections more discoverable and ensure that information can be connected with other collections. During this study day, you will learn which terminology sources are available, how to choose the right one for your collection, and what to do if a term is still missing.

At DEVENTit, we follow this with great interest. Within our Atlantis platform, terminology sources play an important role in sustainably managing, linking, and publishing collections. By applying terms smartly, collections become not only more discoverable but also more strongly connected with other collections and stories. This study day therefore offers a great opportunity to gain inspiration, receive practical tips, and learn from colleagues in the heritage sector.

DEVENTit present at the Reuvensdagen with the Archaeology Module 

On November 20 and 21, we will be present at the Reuvensdagen. During this event, we proudly present the renewed archaeology module of Atlantis, our solution for structured management and accessibility of archaeological collections.

For archaeologists and collection managers, overview and structure are essential. The Archaeology module of Atlantis supports the recording and organization of data from excavations and finds. Whether it concerns project information, traces, artifacts, samples, or files: everything can be registered, linked, and retrieved unambiguously.

Managing the depot also becomes easier. Finds can be linked to specific storage locations such as shelves, cabinets, or drawers. It is immediately visible where objects are located and how much space is available. Barcode scanning can be used for relocations. This way, a complete and up-to-date overview of the collection is created without making management complex.

The module aligns with archaeological standards such as the RCE Archaeological Basic Register and the Municipal Data Model, and uses external sources like the Heritage Thesaurus and Wikidata.
