Revamped website for Hierkomjijweg.nl

www.hierkomjijweg.nl is a collaboration between the municipal archive of Emmen and the Heritage Network Foundation. On this website, you will find not only the collections of the municipal archive but also those of other heritage institutions from the municipality of Emmen. Heritage institutions from Emmen can register to participate, allowing them to manage and publish their collections via this heritage website using Atlantis. On the partners page, you can read about the 25+ participants in this platform.

The website www.hierkomjijweg.nl has received a significant refresh. The site, where the municipal archive and heritage partners make the digitized archive available for residents, researchers, staff, and other interested parties, is now even more accessible and user-friendly.

What’s new?

• Improved search entries: More and clearer ways have been added to search through the archive. Different types of archival material are now easier to find – from deeds and registers to archival inventories and old documents.
• Fresh design: A clearer layout makes it easier to navigate through the archives.
• Faster searching: The search functions and filters have been optimized, allowing visitors to reach the right documents more quickly.

With Hierkomjijweg.nl, they make the heritage of the municipality digitally available to everyone. From old photos to deeds and archival pieces – everything can be found in one place. The revamped site helps to better unlock this information.

Featured: Revamped Archaeology module

For archaeologists, overview and structure are important. The revamped archaeology module of Atlantis supports the recording and organization of data from excavations and finds. Whether it concerns project descriptions, traces, layers, artifacts, samples, or (multimedia) files, everything can be registered and linked in a structured manner, making information easy to retrieve.

Depot management also becomes clearer. Finds can be linked to storage locations such as shelves, cabinets, racks, or drawers. Barcodes help to gain immediate insight into where something is located and how much space is available. This creates a complete picture of the collection without complicating management.

The module aligns with applicable archaeological standards such as the RCE Archaeological Basic Register and the Municipal Data Model, and can utilize external sources such as the Heritage Thesaurus and Wikidata. Thanks to the flexible setup with dynamic forms and choice lists, the module can be adapted to the specific workflows or registration needs of an organization.

In this way, the Archaeology module offers a structured and reliable way to record, manage, and visualize archaeological data, both in the field and in the depot.

DEVENTit present at Information at ZOO 2025

In October, it’s that time again: Information at ZOO 2025 (formerly Information at Sea) opens its doors in the Queen Elisabeth Hall in Antwerp. This biennial congress is the meeting place for information professionals from museums, archives, libraries, heritage institutions, and government organizations. It is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences, discover new developments, and discuss current themes in information and collection management.

This year’s theme is “Information in transition: human values in a digital future.” It focuses on how technological developments influence the information sector and how we can combine digital transformation with human expertise and values. For everyone working with information and collections, this promises to be an inspiring and educational edition.

We will be present this year with a booth, and we would love to tell you more about our package, showcase new developments, and answer all your questions. You can find us at booth 0.33. Whether you want to brainstorm about your own processes, are curious about the possibilities of our system, or just want to catch up, you are very welcome.

Open Monument Day 2025: Heritage in the spotlight

On Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14, 2025, the Friends Lottery Open Monument Day will take place, this year with the theme “Heritage & Architecture – Built to Last.” Thousands of monuments across the Netherlands will open their doors to the public, from castles and churches to unique residential houses and historical factories.

The theme emphasizes the importance of craftsmanship, sustainable preservation, and the safeguarding of valuable heritage for future generations. Visitors will have the chance to admire not only the buildings themselves but also to discover the stories behind them: about the history, the architecture, and the people who have preserved and cared for these monuments.

It is wonderful to see how institutions carefully register and preserve their heritage and the associated information, ensuring that the stories of these monuments are not lost. We also believe it is important that heritage is well documented and remains accessible, so it can be preserved for the generations to come.

Open Monument Day is therefore not only a celebration for heritage enthusiasts but also a beautiful reminder of the importance of good management and preserving the stories that keep our history alive.
