Switch to Linked Open Data at a favorable rate

It has recently been announced that a new Linked Open Data acceleration scheme has started. This means that a grant has become available to start using Linked Open Data. The Digital Heritage Network has established guidelines to work according to the same agreements. We call this ‘NDE-compatible working’. Atlantis can be fully set up to be NDE Compatible, as it meets these guidelines. By applying NDE Compatibility, your collection becomes usable for other platforms and applications. It increases the visibility of the collections and simplifies linking with others. 

The financial support is very interesting for users of Atlantis, and parties considering using Atlantis. For both upgrading Atlantis to NDE Compatible and switching to Atlantis – NDE Compatible – configured, the full one-time costs will be reimbursed. This even applies to the migration costs to transfer data from another system to Atlantis.

View the collection of Camp Westerbork

The Memorial Center Camp Westerbork houses a special and valuable collection. The letters, documents, photographs, and objects tell the story of Camp Westerbork and the people who lived, worked, or were imprisoned there. On the collection platform Westerbork Digital, you can now take a look at the digital collections. In addition to photographs, documents, and other collection items, there is also a lot of additional information about the history of Camp Westerbork.

Various parties are involved in the realization of this platform. Atlantis Collection Management is used for managing the collection. Data is made available to the portal via the RESTful API of Atlantis. View this beautiful project and the impressive collection via the button. 

Basic training Atlantis

Group training sessions are organized on Wednesday, May 22, and Wednesday, June 18. These are online training sessions where Atlantis users from different organizations are trained together. The training starts at 09:30 and lasts until approximately 12:30. 

In both cases, it is a basic training course. Such a basic training is specifically tailored for new Atlantis users or users who need to refresh their basic knowledge. After this training, a user will be able to work independently with Atlantis. The topics for this basic training include:

• Logging into Atlantis and an explanation of the global components in the menu bar;
• Searching for objects, searching in search results, and saving search queries;
• Viewing search results, viewing detail information, and modifying detail information;
• Adding new objects and multimedia including working with copies and defaults;
• Viewing relationships and establishing new relationships;
• Performing actions in bulk.

Share your image with IIIF: what can you do with it?

Do you, as a heritage organization, have a beautiful collection of digitized paintings, maps, or other images? And are you curious about how to present, bring together, and enrich this collection online? The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF, pronounced as ‘triple-eye-eff’) can help you with this. On Thursday, May 28, an event will be organized by the Digital Heritage Network in Amsterdam (location to be announced) to provide more explanation about this. Project highlighted: Family Blokhuis Foundation

Atlantis is used by a wide range of parties within the heritage sector. This includes the Family Blokhuis Foundation. This is a foundation with the special goal of financially supporting family members where needed and documenting the collected information about family members and bringing it together. Sylvia van Halteren explains: 

“Our foundation was established in 1912 by E. Arthur F. Blokhuis and his two uncles Hendrik J. Blokhuis and Meindert Blokhuis. For over 100 years, we have been collecting family data for our genealogy and maintaining ties with our family members by organizing family weekends, senior days, and other activities.

Since 2022, we have been using Atlantis to digitize our family archive and link physical objects, texts, and photos to our genealogy. We are very pleased with the user-friendly program and all the help and support we receive as a small family foundation from the staff of DEVENTit.”
