Search the scientific archive of Naturalis

Naturalis Biodiversity Center from Leiden has launched a new website where the scientific archive can be searched. Naturalis houses a collection of over 42 million objects (animals, plants, fossils, etc.). Various data about this collection has been preserved, for example in the form of notebooks, correspondence, manuscripts, diaries, catalogs, photos, prints, and registers. Together, they form the archive and image collections of Naturalis. Through this site, Naturalis is digitally unlocking these collections. In the future, more archives and images will be added to this website.

The Naturalis archives and image collections are considered absolutely unique for several reasons. The scientific data recorded in them are inextricably linked to the Naturalis collection and to observations of animals and plants over a long period. This data is historically interesting, among other things, because it outlines circumstances that no longer exist. This is relevant both geographically, ecologically, and anthropologically and socio-historically. There are no comparable archives in the Netherlands with this content, scope, and significance for natural history. In particular, the archives of Schlegel and Korthals contain many original drawings, made respectively in diary notes, during field observations, and as preliminary studies for publications.

DEVENTit was allowed to assist in the realization of this website. An Atlantis Publishing Environment has been used for searching this beautiful collection. Within Naturalis, Atlantis is also used as a collection registration system for other sub-collections.

Louwman Museum chooses Atlantis

The Louwman Museum from The Hague aims to provide as clear and engaging a picture as possible of what the automobile industry has produced since 1887. The car is one of the most important inventions of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Over 80 years ago, the Louwman family already had the idea to preserve the highlights of automotive history for future generations. The Louwman Museum dates back to 1934. Since then, the collection has been expanded and refined in phases. The collection now includes over 275 antique and classic automobiles. With a sense of historical values, an interesting and balanced collection of automobiles has been assembled, all with the aim of painting a clear and engaging picture of the times.

We are proud that the Louwman Museum has chosen DEVENTit to manage its special collections in Atlantis and to make them accessible to the public via the website in the future.

Get to know Atlantis 7 through an exclusive preview

We are pleased to announce the upcoming release of Atlantis 7, a completely new version of our product. This upgrade brings significant improvements, including a completely redesigned user interface and new features that make creating, managing, and sharing your collections significantly more user-friendly and efficient.

On Friday, October 27 at 3:00 PM, we will offer an exclusive preview. During this event, you will have the chance to take a first look at what this new version has to offer and how it differs from the current version. We will provide demonstrations of the improved usability and new possibilities, and we are ready to answer all your questions.

Although our customers have already received personal invitations, we also want to invite interested parties to participate in this preview. After the preview, we will host a party to celebrate the 25th anniversary of DEVENTit. This party is accessible to our customers, employees, and business relations. Visit our booth during Informatie aan Zee

Informatie aan Zee, the conference for information professionals in Flanders, is an event where you can gain knowledge, inspire each other, and network. This year, we will also be here with our booth to provide visitors with the necessary information and to get to know each other. This event will take place on October 19 and 20 in Ostend (BE).

The theme of Informatie aan Zee 2023 is Impact: Are we making a difference? Make a difference! This theme delves deeper into the societal role of our sector and how it can remain relevant to the ever-evolving society. What difference are we making and how can we make that difference? Think of sessions on community, participation, diversity, decolonization, an inclusive and equitable society, ethical practices, sustainability, self-development, user-centered work, social work, the impact of new technologies on our sector and community, the importance of evaluating, measuring, and parameters, and so on.

At our booth, you will learn more about Atlantis as an archive and collection management system. We have expertise in applying Linked Open Data in making cultural historical sources available and we connect to the societal importance of making these collections usable.
