National Education Museum launches verScholenopdekaart.nl

The Education Museum has more than 4000 historical postcards with images of school buildings in its collection. The cards provide an overview of school buildings from the early twentieth century to the 1990s. Some of the postcards can be admired in the permanent exhibition at the museum. However, the majority of the cards are stored in the depot.

To ensure that this special collection of cards can also be admired outside the depot, the Education Museum has had a special website developed where all postcards can be viewed. The Education Museum has chosen Atlantis to manage, register, and publish this unique collection through the revamped website.

With Atlantis’s presentation module, it is possible to link the postcards to a geographic map, allowing visitors to the website to easily find school buildings throughout the Netherlands. On verScholenopdekaart.nl, one can not only find school buildings. Thanks to the annotation module, it is also possible to leave one’s own story or memory.

Get to know Atlantis Collection Management Lite

At the beginning of 2023, DEVENTit expanded its product offering with Atlantis Collection Management Lite. A full-fledged solution for collection management made accessible for small heritage organizations and museums. In recent months, numerous heritage parties and museums have chosen this solution, and several have already fully adopted it. Atlantis Collection Management Lite has proven to be a welcome addition, and we are pleased that we have made Atlantis accessible to parties with fewer financial resources.

A web-based collection management system is provided that fully supports the registration of museum collections and processes. The setup of the environment is based on the description standard Spectrum and follows the guidelines of the Digital Heritage Network for making collections sustainable, usable, and visible. The environment has a user-friendly design that an organization can almost immediately start working with. A temporary free standard migration from the current system or collection file is also provided.

Heritage ‘s-Hertogenbosch seeks help in describing postcards

Heritage ‘s-Hertogenbosch has called on the residents of ‘s-Hertogenbosch to help describe postcards. The project, which aims to document the rich history of the city, invites residents to share their knowledge and memories to make a valuable contribution to the preservation of the heritage of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The postcards provide a unique insight into daily life and the architecture of a specific time and place in the past.

By actively involving the residents in describing the postcards, they can share their own knowledge and experiences. This valuable information can help identify places, people, and events. For this project, Atlantis Crowdsourcing is being used.

Basic training in a group setting

On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 09:30, a group training session is scheduled. This group training focuses on the basic knowledge needed to work in Atlantis, explaining the basic functionalities. A group training session has a reduced rate, and representatives from different organizations can join.

• General explanation of the homepage;
• Searching for objects, iterative searching, and saving the search query;
• Viewing search results, the detail page, and editing detail information;
• Adding new objects and multimedia, including working with copying and defaults;
• Establishing relationships;
• Performing bulk actions;
• Creating selections and worksets.

Are you a new user of Atlantis or would you like to brush up on your basic knowledge? You can still register for the group training on July 5, 2023, via the button below. This training will start at 09:30 and last until approximately 12:30.

New functionality in Crowdsourcing

For the project leader and reviewer of a crowdsourcing project, a new functionality has become available in the latest release. This is accessible from the overview and dashboard screen via the ‘Administrator’ button. This provides a new screen where the status of each description can be seen and an activity and input overview can be requested. It is now possible to revert a description and resubmit it to the participant. The comments placed are now shown at the bottom, so the reviewer can see this immediately. A frequently requested feature was to be able to edit a field as a reviewer, even if it has already been approved by the self-review. This request has been addressed by adding a setting to the crowdsourcing project to make blocked fields editable by the reviewer.

Featured: Adding a new description

In Atlantis, various methods are offered for adding a new description.

• Hover over the menu bar and choose Employee > Add > [Desired description]. A blank form will appear for adding information.
• Open an existing description. Click on the icon to add a new description by clicking on the blank page.
• Click the copy button within an existing description. Based on the previous description, the form for the new description will be filled in.

In addition to these mentioned, there are also various ways to add data in bulk. Think of: Describing in series and import functions.
