Schedule a meeting during KVAN Archive Day

On Monday, June 17, 2024, the annual KVAN Archive Day will take place. This year, the former Prodent factory in Amersfoort has been chosen as the location. The theme is ‘The archive as a utility’ which means that archives play or should play an important role in providing information to employees, researchers, and the public. To illustrate this role in the future, they will share best practices from archives that have already started this transition. How have they approached this? What does it take to get your organization on board? They will also show you how institutions are already being used as a ‘utility’. For both government information and corporate archives.

With Atlantis, all the tools are provided for archives to fulfill this role. For example, thanks to public accessibility and extensive request functions. But also think about providing information in a sustainable and usable way so that third parties can reuse this data using standardized methods.

Atlantis 7 – Work in progress

Behind the scenes, work is being done on a new version of Atlantis: Atlantis 7. This offers a completely new environment for Atlantis users. Highlights include the renewed design and user-friendliness, combined with the highest performance. The development of Atlantis 7 has utilized the latest techniques in data entry, searching, and navigation. The user interface has been designed with clarity and user-friendliness as the main principles. Additionally, Atlantis 7 is responsive for any device and the theme is customizable to the organization’s house style. Thanks to a significant expansion in the area of rights and permissions, the system fully adapts to the user. This model goes so far that it even becomes possible to deploy a single combined environment for both the management and public environment.

Atlantis 7 will be offered as a free upgrade for existing Atlantis customers. The release is scheduled for later this year.

Atlantis Basic Training on Tuesday, July 2, 2024

On Tuesday, July 2, a group training session for Atlantis is scheduled. This is an online training where Atlantis users from different organizations will be trained together. Such a training starts at 09:30 and lasts until approximately 12:30. Since multiple participants are trained simultaneously, there is a low participation fee associated with this training.

This is a basic training. A basic training is specifically tailored for new Atlantis users or users who need to refresh their basic knowledge. After this training, a user will be able to work independently with Atlantis. The topics for this basic training include:

Performing bulk actions.

Logging into Atlantis and an explanation of the main components in the menu bar;

Searching for objects, searching in search results, and saving search queries;

Viewing search results, viewing detail information, and modifying detail information;

Adding new objects and multimedia including working with copying and defaults;

Viewing relationships and establishing new relationships;

Improve the quality of your data

Since this year, the Digital Heritage Network has provided the opportunity to receive support in improving the quality of your heritage data. Data workspaces have been designated for this purpose. There are data workspaces spread across the Netherlands. In these data workspaces, skills are taught to clean and enrich heritage data on a large scale. Here, you will actively work on improving the quality of data from heritage collections. There are data cleaners who provide practical support. They assist with bulk cleaning, linking external thesauri, and compiling open datasets for inclusion in the Dataset Register.

Research on crowdsourcing

More and more organizations in the heritage sector are calling on the public to help describe heritage collections. Various tools for crowdsourcing are available to simplify this process; both for the organization and for the public.

The Digital Heritage Network is conducting research on crowdsourcing tools. As a first result, they have compiled a list of the main platforms. These are VeleHanden, HetVolk, and Atlantis Crowdsourcing. The difference lies mainly in the purpose of the intended crowdsourcing project. Therefore, a questionnaire has been developed that organizations can use to set up a project plan for implementing Crowdsourcing.
